  MIAMI — Democratic U.S. Rep. Val Demings of Florida went on the attack Tuesday in her first debate against Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, accusing him of being a serial liar, while Rubio criticized her for supporting President Joe Biden's economic agenda. Rubio, a two-term senator, and Demings, a three-term congresswoman and former Orlando police chief, faced questions at the debate in Lake Worth on topics including inflation, abortion, voting rights, gun violence, immigration and foreign policy. Florida has increasingly shifted rightward in recent election cycles, giving Rubio the advantage as Republicans now lead Democrats with voter registration in the state. But Demings clearly saw the debate as an opportunity to take Rubio on forcefully as she tries to become the state's first Black senator.   Alabama   is investigating after a video on social media appeared to show wide receiver   Jermaine Burton   striking a female fan who rushed the field following   Tennessee 's 52-49 win over the Crimson Tide on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.   A report on an   FBI   search last spring at the home of then- ABC News   producer and reporter   James Gordon Meek   has generated a response from his attorney and lingering questions over the nature of the investigation. According to the network, Meek, a military and national security investigative reporter who produced Hulu’s  3212 Unredacted  last year, “resigned very abruptly and hasn’t worked for us for months.” According to  a report  in our sister publication  Rolling Stone , Meek’s exit came after an April 27 raid of his apartment in Arlington, Virginia. Meek has not been charged, but a magistrate judge signed off on the warrant the day before the raid. Documents in the case remain sealed,  Rolling Stone  reported.   “Harry Potter” meets “Descendants” with a dash of “Romeo and Juliet” in “The School for Good and Evil.” And yes, it is as overstuffed as that sounds. This massive, magical adventure is also way too long at 2 ½ hours, but rarely in that running time do we see any glimmers of the kind of singular filmmaking wizardry that usually makes  Paul Feig ’s movies so engaging. He’s once again telling a story of female friendship, with all its highs and lows and particular complications, as he has with “ Bridesmaids ,” “ The Heat ,” and “ A Simple Favor .” And, of course, the clothes are dazzling; the famously sartorial director would never skimp in that department. But all of these potentially effective elements—as well as a stellar cast that includes  Charlize Theron ,  Kerry Washington , and  Michelle Yeoh —get swallowed up by the overwhelming reliance on CGI-infused action sequences.
