Shares of EV start-up Rivian hit new low following production snags and third-quarter results

Shares of Rivian Automotive, an electric vehicle start-up that went public through a blockbuster IPO last month, plummeted to a new low Friday after the company cut its 2021 vehicle production target. Rivian said after the markets closed Thursday that it expected to fall “a few hundred vehicles short” of this year’s production target of 1,200 vehicles. The company said it faced supply chain issues as well as challenges ramping up production of the complex batteries that power the vehicles. “Ramping up a production system like this, as I said before, is a really complex orchestra,” Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe said. “We’re ramping largely as expected; the battery constraint is really an artifact of just bringing up a highly automated line, and, as I said, it doesn’t present any long-term challenges for us.” Buy kush , vape carts and Edible Marijuana Shares of Rivian were down 15% early Friday morning before recovering to end the week at $97.70 a share, down by 10.3% for the day. 'Nightmare Alley' veers into a different lane for Guillermo del Toro and Bradley Cooper

(CNN)Director/co-writer Guillermo del Toro veers out of his customary lane in "Nightmare Alley," a gorgeous-looking but narratively flawed movie that at its best evokes the lurid thrillers of the 1940s while meandering too much in between. Bradley Cooper fills the central role, but Cate Blanchett steals the show as a Barbara Stanwyck-style femme fatale. Adapted from a 75-year-old novel (previously turned into a movie with Tyrone Power), the film focuses on a young stranger who leaves behind a scarred past and stumbles into the company of a traveling carnival in the 1930s (the vibe of the HBO series "Carnivale" is strong), eventually graduating from lifting and hoisting to mastering the mentalist act. Cooper's Stanton Carlisle should seemingly be younger, a bit of casting that requires a certain suspension of disbelief at first. Putting that aside, the movie doesn't fully kick into gear until about halfway through its 2 ½-hour running time, as Stanton decide...

The Witcher Recap: Make New Friends But Keep the Old

It’s a bad time to be an elf. It’s never been a great time — at least not since humans arrived on the Continent — but somehow things are only getting worse. As the northern kings consolidate their power, elves are being rounded up by guards and sent off to places unknown. Even Yennefer, a quarter elf, is in danger, which makes her Cahir’s reluctant ally. Conveniently, her former prisoner is also trekking toward what’s left of Cintra, which Nilfgaard has turned into a safe haven for elves. For now, these former enemies are bound at the hip: trading insults and confidences, saving each other’s lives, and generally connecting in a way that might make Geralt a little uneasy if he were there to see it. Much of “Redanian Intelligence” centers on a pair of mismatched couples: Yennefer and Cahir in Gors Velen and Oxenfurt, and Geralt and Triss Merigold in Kaer Morhen. Before long, Yennefer and Cahir are joined by an extremely welcome face: Jaskier, who has now styled himself as “the Sandp...
